SEDATION DENTISTRY
Putting Your Fears to Rest. The anxiety that some patients have can be controlled by administering sedative medication
LEAVE YOUR ANXIETY AT THE DOOR
Do you avoid getting the dental care you need and deserve because you feel fearful or anxious? Have you missed your dental appointments, avoided scheduling important dental treatment like fillings or crowns, or suffered through agonizing tooth pain because the mere thought of sitting in a dental chair makes you nervous?
It is common for many patients to feel nervous or anxious about their dental procedures. With sedation dentistry you can be calm, comfortable or even asleep through the entire procedure! Dr. Cappiello is trained to help with your anxiety, by administering medications to make you feel more comfortable.
What Is Sedation Dentisty?
The anxiety that some patients have can be controlled by administering sedative medication. These medications can provide various benefits for our patients such as, relaxation, pain control, twilight sleep, and often provides an amnesia effect. Depending on the patients, their anxiety levels, and their treatment plan, we can discuss multiple sedation options to best fit your needs.
There are many options for sedation which will allow our patients to feel relaxed, and experience a stress-free, easy, and calm visit using sedative medications. Many of these options will be described below, such as IV sedation, Oral Sedation, or Nitrous Oxide. We, at Sedation and Implant Dentistry Las Vegas, are proud to be one of very few dental practices in Clark County offering IV sedation and anesthesia.
What is IV Sedation?
IV sedation is the administration of anesthetic medications intravenously. The procedure puts you in a comfortable, conscious (semi-awake) state of reduced anxiety. You, the patient, will have little or no memory of the dental procedure that was performed. Through conscious sedation, you are placed in an amnesic state from the medications used to administer sedation. During IV sedation, you are able to respond to verbal commands and sometimes to a light physical touch.
Nitrous Oxide
Inhaled sedation is also known as nitrous oxide. This is used when a patient wants to relax in the dental chair due to mild anxiety. It can really help you relax during your treatment. It’s an odorless gas you breathe through a small and comfortable mask over your nose.
You’ll feel relaxed and even a little giddy. But you’ll still be able to communicate with Dr. Cappiello and let her know if you’re feeling uncomfortable.
Nitrous oxide starts to wear off as soon as the mask is removed and you’ll be back to normal in just a few minutes.
Oral Medication
Oral sedation dentistry is now the most common technique used in the United States and Canada to quell patient fears. The technique is easy and requires no needles. Best of all, the medications create such a comfortable experience that most patients do not remember the visit; it is as if they slept through the treatment. In reality, oral sedation dentistry maintains a level of consciousness in the patient for safety and cooperation.
